Kristin Yurdin became the first woman to redpoint White Wedding
(5.13d).
The reachy climb
made 5'2" Kristin deadpoint a number of moves to complete her
year long project. Or as she puts it "two ropes, two pairs
of shoes and one grigri later..."
Kristin commented
that the most difficult part of the climb was the mental aspect
of the climb. "There are a lot of moves that I found close to my
max. These moves were very low probability unless I was completely
focused. I fell in several different places on the route over many
redpoint attempts and that was quite frustrating. Some days I questioned
the probability of completing all of the difficult moves without
falling. About midway up the main wall is the redpoint crux. Most
people skip the clip in the middle of the crux which opens up the
possibility of thirty foot fall, so you have to be feeling psyched
and focused at this point."
