Beth
Rodden
did
the
first
free
ascent
of
the
first
pitch
on
the
Great
Roof
of
Brogan
Spire
on
October
19th,
2004.
The thin seam
went at 5.14b. Done
as an aid line the first pitch of this three pitch climb is rated
at A3. Beth is calling the 14b "The Optimist".
Pin
scars
and
a
thin
vertical
edge
comprise
the
lower
section
of
the
route.
Alan
Watts
worked
on
the
line
in
the
late
'80's
without
success.
During
the
fall
of
'94
Brooke
Sandahl
replaced
some
of
the
bolts
along
the
seam
and
permanently
removed
the
other
half
of
the
clustered
iron
on
the
route
setting
the
stage
for
a
future
free
ascent.
Tommy
Caldwell
also
tried
the
route
but
was
not
able
to
link
it
up.

crux
as
