The Annual Smith Rock Spring Thing
The Smith Rock Group has been operating the Smith Rock Spring Thing Volunteer Day since 1993, which attracts about 200 people each year. This event is focused on Smith Rock projects developed by volunteers and park staff.
Over the years we have conducted many projects throughout the park. Last year was a huge success with completing the Cinnamon Slab retaining walls, new steps up to the Dihedrals, nearly 100 extra steps on Misery Ridge and trail work throughout the park such as Monkey Face, Spiderman’s Buttress, Front side, Phoenix Buttress and Aggro Gully. A huge thanks goes out to everyone who helped last year and all the previous years.
The event begins at 8 AM with registration at Smith Rock Park and concludes with the dinner, auction, and raffle starting around 5 PM. Parking passes, breakfast snacks, water, sunscreen, work gloves, tools, supplies, free camping at the bivy, and dinner are provided for all volunteers.
The Smith Rock Spring Thing is organized and coordinated by the Smith Rock Group, a grass roots, all-volunteer, non-profit organization with 501(c)3 status. We are pleased to work in cooperation with the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department and be a part of the Access Fund Adopt-A-Crag Program and American Alpine Club Cornerstone Grant.
