Upper Homestead Trail Closed for Renovation

April 25, 2017

The upper section of the Homestead Trail is closed for renovation from April 24 to May 24, 2017. This is the section that enters and exits the park close to the Northern Point, a popular climbing area and great viewpoint of the Monument Area

Erosion from weather and increased use by hikers and climbers to access the valley below has made these upper sections pretty challenging, as bigger rocks and smaller scree take over the trail.

Accessed from above the river gorge at the Turnaround Parking Lot, the Homestead Trail offers a way to disperse visitors from the main Overlook area to enter the park by offering an alternative to the Chute and Canyon trails.

Park management hopes to get the upper sections in shape for summer traffic, just ahead of the Memorial Day weekend. Please respect the closed signs when you don't see workers there and they'll be able to finish the project that much sooner!
